An rare and unusual Early 19th Century Radial Edged Gentleman's solid Flame Mahogany Toilet & Writing Box, the sides with a pair of flush brass bands, the lid with a blank name plate. It opens to reveal on one side a number of compartments, three with lids. On the other side a panel, with a recess probably to take a hand mirror, springs up when two catches are released, unfolding to form the blue baize lined writing platform, resting securely on two brass side supports. The Bramah Patent lock is in good order with a period key.

The box was at one time the property of Edward Solomon (1855-1895) the distinguished Composer, Conductor & Pianist. It comes with two documents, one handwritten, associating him with the box, and the other a typed biography.
