A unusually large Georgian Mahogany Writing Box C 1800 with recessed brass side handles of a scroll pattern, corner straps and a blank escutcheon in the top, matching the design of the handles. The box unfolds in two stages. The first reveals a red morocco leather panel which drops forward with storage for documents behind, plus an expanding marbled paper wallet. A compartment for writing instruments is situated below with a lidded section for nibs, and the original glass ink bottle with a Sheffield plated top. The next unfold displays a black baize covered writing surface of great length with more document storage beneath. The lock is in good working order.
