A Georgian late 18th century black hide leather Despatch Document Box, retaining its original carrying handle and almost all its brass studs, which are not just for decoration, but also for protection against knocks etc; the leather has been deep waxed & dressed to protect from further deterioration. The interior is lined with Italian marbled paper.
The lock and key are original, and in good working order
