JENNER & KNEWSTUB, TO THE QUEEN, 35 ST JAMES'S ST. & 66 JERMYN ST.
An exceptionally large Victorian Black Morocco Leather Documents Box in very fine condition with its hide travel case. All brass fittings are gilded including the substantial carrying handle and the matching keyhole escutcheon. The interior contains a removable tray, with sprung handles, divided into three sections, plus a separate pen tray and oversized travelling ink well, and matching lights box, which still contains a large quantity of the original wax matches. The lid is lined with a trellis of leather strips for holding small paper notes etc., and a leather covered blotter containing the original unused blotting paper, together with a matching leather folder. The maker's name and address appear on the lock, as well as on either side of the lock.
The Bramah Patent lock has an unusual feature. The box can be click closed and can be opened by sliding the front downwards. The key locks it so that the front cannot be slid. If you leave the key inside the lock, the box can still be opened without it.
