A large Ebonised Mahogany Box supplied by MAKEPEACE & WALFORD, of LINCOLNS INN, LONDON to THE EARL OF ELDON IN 1841 for storing his dessert service. With brass side handles, the box has triple stay hinges and a secure lock & key. The interior is lined with green beize, and the supplier's trade label is gummed inside the lid.
An engraved brass plate screwed and laid into the lid reads: 'EARL OF ELDON DESSERT SERVICE JUNE 4TH 1841.'
