A Black Morocco Leather covered Double Fold Writing Compendium retailed by Asprey, 166 New Bond St. W. C 1870, with central recessed handle in the domed lid & flush escutcheon. Inside, the lid a divided stationery compartment with a leather blotting folder behind. This compartment drops forward, for easy access to the paper & envelopes, by pushing the half moon button below the lock keep. The horizontal section is fitted with a pair of ink wells, stamped 'Ink' & 'Copying', at either side of a removable pen tray, covering a divided section for pen nibs, and three white wipe-clean slates for use with a pencil or felt tipped pen.
Unfolding again reveals a divided leather writing slope. The compartment beneath the upper writing flap contains leather folders stamped 'Just a line' and 'Telegrams' with the original fitted pencil. Inside the lower flap there are three retaining straps.
The most of the gilding of all the interior metal work (hinges, lock etc.) is in good condition. The latches and exterior metal work are rubbed.
