A large brass bound solid Cuban Mahogany Campaign Deed Box with a fitted drawer, having substantial drop brass side handles. The intricate lock has four points of engagement, and retains its original key, which also operates the drawer lock. This box may have well belonged to a military or naval officer, who would have used it to contain dispatches, ships log and cargo manifest, as well as personal papers. The drawer would have held stationery, writing instruments and ink bottles.
