A very fine Early Victorian Red Morocco Leather clad Despatch Box C1860 of oblong shape, the bevelled top mounted with a large swing handle and gold stamped with Queen Victoria's early royal cipher, and 'WAR OFFICE' embossed in gilt lettering.. The working lock with key are old replacements. The interior with raised sides retains its original green velvet lining, and the maker's details in gold lettering are stamped in the front rim.
