A very fine Red Morocco Leather Despatch Box embossed with the Royal Insignia of King Edward VII and stamped with the name Norman Lamont M.P*., the bevelled lid having a central recessed brass handle. The black leather lined interior features raised sides and stabilising studs.
The complicated lock with two chambers was patented by George Davis of Windsor in 1799. Please see my close-up image of the special key required to work it. Instructions of how to lock & unlock will be given to the buyer of the box.
*Norman Lamont M.P. served in successive governments under Margaret Thatcher and John Major for a total of 14 years, in the Departments of Energy, Industry, Defence and The Treasury.
