A fine quality 19th Century Red Morocco Leather Despatch Box originally the property of David Douglas (1823-1916), the noted Edinburgh book publisher*, whose name, together with the city, is embossed on the bevelled top. It has a substantial top mounted swing handle and a working lock stamped Bramah London, and key, and it opens on sturdy 90º hinges displaying the leather lined interior with raised sides and stability studs.
