A beautiful figured rosewood jewellery box reinforced on each edge with radial brass, and inlaid with decorative brass eight point stars in the centre of the lid and round the keyhole to the Bramah lock. A six point star surrounds the keyhole to the locking drawer. A hidden catch releases the ruched velvet covered secret panel inside the lid, and allows it to drop forward revealing a fixed mirror and, on the reverse of the panel, a red leather wallet for holding confidential letters, papers etc. The maker's/retailer's paper trade label can be found inside the opening of the wallet with the words HALSTAFF MANUFACTURER OF WRITING BOXES, DRESSING CASES, LADIES' WORK BOXES & ETC. 228 REGENT ST., LATE OF MARGARET ST. The fitted drawer and interior of the box are lined with with ruby red velvet. There are two trays, one fitted, the other lined with matching gold tooled leather. Both locks are in good working order, the Bramah retains its original key.
