A George V Black grained Leather Despatch Box stamped with the Royal Insignia and with the name of the original owner THE RIGHT HONOURABLE LORD EMMOTT*, having the unusual feature of a brass inset carrying handle at the back, as well as in the lid, the interior leather cloth lined interior with leather strip trellis work inside the lid and raised sides and with location pins, the seven wafer Bramah patent lock, with original key, engraved Wickwar, and with the maker's name & address stamped on the leading edge.

*Alfred Emmott GCMG GBE PC (1858-1926), 1st Baron Emmott.- 1899-1911 Liberal member of parliament for Oldham (it was a two-member seat, and Winston Churchill, who started his political career there, was the other MP from 1900-1906). In October 1911 he was appointed Under-Secretary of the State for the Colonies by H.H. Asquith. He remained at the Colonial Office until 1914, and was then a member of Asquith's cabinet as First Commissioner of Works between 1914 and 1915. Emmott was also Director of the War Trade Department between 1915 and 1919, chaired The Royal Society between 1922- and 1924.
