S. MAW & SON, LONDON
An original Mahogany and Brass Pill Machine C1880 used by chemists to mould ingredients into pills. It consists of two main parts, the board and the roller. The roller has two handles. It fits over the sides of the board, and has wheels to enable it to roll backwards and forwards. The underneath of the roller is fitted with a brass plate with grooves in it that match the board. The mixture is rolled in to a thin tube by rolling it using the upside of the roller. It is then placed laterally over the grooves in the board and rolled backwards & forwards until it is formed into pill size balls. I have used blue tack as shown in the pictures to demonstrate.
