BALON, Fabricante de Nécessaires, Palais Royal no.161 á Paris
An Early 19th Century French Burr Elm Document Box with brass campaign side handles and edged with brass and quarter circles at the corners. The red & green interior comprises a deep leather covered tray, gold tooled & lined with red velvet, and a green leather folder, with gold tooling inside the lid, with the maker's trade label.
An interesting feature of the box is the lock, the centre arbour of which is clover shaped for security, and the individual key that can work it, itself an example of fine craftmanship (see pictures).
