A late Georgian Gentleman's Jewellery Box of beautifully figured Cuban Mahogany with radial edges & three rows of recessed brass across each side, incorporating campaign handles, and two across the front & back. A brass plate in the lid is engraved W.G. and shows a bird in flight.
The Green leather & silk lined interior comprises a fitted tray, below which is another shallow tray. The recess underneath features a full width secret drawer behind a sliding panel.
An unusual feature in a box of this period is the continuous one piece hinge and a pair of props to support the lid in the open position. The lock, with original working key, is stamped with a crown and 'Bramah', 124 Piccadilly.
