An early Victorian Brass Bound Box dated 1852, probably a miltary campaign piece, with recessed side handles, and a larger matching handle in front. The side handles are engraved 'No. 5' with the date 1851 below. The one in front has 'BkCe' and the number '31'. On the front of the lid a brass thumbnail recess also has 'No. 5' engraved. The top bears an unused brass monogram plate.
The interior, with raised sides, is lined with silk velvet.
An interesting feature of the box is its complicated Barrons Patent lock. Please see the pictures of its interior & key.
