A 19th Century Black Leather Despatch Box by this eminent maker C1865, with central raise handle & Bramah lock & key, the interior with leather trellis work inside the lid and a deep tray lined with green baize, the back bearing in gold the maker's trade mark surmounted by the royal crown with the words 'Despatch Box by Royal Letters Patent'. The maker's name & address appears  below the trade mark, as well as on either side of the lock, and is also engraved on the lock. The storage compartment below the the tray is deep & generous. Both the tray & compartment below can accommodate unfolded A4 size sheets of paper.

*Jenner & Knewstub  Established around 1856 by Frederick Jenner and Fabian James Knewstub, they were located at 33 St James’s Street, and then later in 1862, at 66 Jermyn Street, London. Their work was displayed at the International Exhibition of 1862 and at the International Exposition of 1878 in Paris. They quickly obtained many royal warrants including those to the Russian royal family and Queen Victoria.
