A Rectangular Black Morocco Leather bound Despatch Box mounted with a heavy swing brass carrying handle, the beveled top stamped with the ROYAL CROWN and inscribed LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, JAMAICA*. The interior is also lined with black morocco leather, and the Bramah lock retains its original key.

*The Legislative Council was instituted in Jamaica by Sir John Peter Grant soon after his arrival as Governor in 1866, and consisted of the Governor, six officials & three non-official members, all appointed by the Crown.
