This cabinet can be attributed to Edwards*, one of the great box makers of the early 19th century. The choice of finely figured rosewood veneer in addition to style of brass inlay, particularly the spandrels in the corners of the top & front, make a convincing argument that it is by this eminent maker.

*David Edwards established his business in 1813 at 21 King Street, Bloomsbury, London, and it was continued by his nephew Thomas after David's death in 1848. The firm was granted a royal warrant by Queen Victoria & others in the Royal Family. In 1858 the firm was absorbed by Asprey.
