This incoming post & petition box was commissioned by the 3rd Earl Annesley* for Castlewellan in County Down. It is extremely rare and, indeed, may be unique. The box is of rosewood, and has brass campaign side handles. In the top there are three slots with engraved brass tabs for 'Answered' & 'Unanswered' post, and a central slot for 'Petitions'. A rectangular inlaid brass band above the slots is engraved 'EARL ANNESLEY CASTLEWELLAN' The divided interior is accessed by the front drawer which drops forward, and has a working lock.
