PARKINS & GOTTO 24 & 25 OXFORD STREET LONDON
An early and exceptionally original oak stationery cabinet by this well known maker. The typically moulded exterior houses a large stationery area consisting of six divisions & 13 sections, above which is a calendar caddy with a complete set of replacement cards and a Kendal & Dent lever watch in working order. The fascia bears inset oval ivory labels, elaborately engraved 'Accounts', 'Receipts', 'Postage', 'Matches', 'Answered', and 'Unanswered', and the original eight leather bound markers are kept in the compartments either side of the calendar. The cabinet retains its original white writing slate inside the left hand door, and criss-cross elastic to retain calling cards, ephemera etc. in the other door. Above the pen tray two brass hooks support a cylindrical ebony ruler, and at either side sit the pair of Mosley's Revolving brass crown top ink bottles. The full width drawer, with a recessed brass campaign handle, has a central section with two compartments on the right, and a half covered trough on the left. The Bramah lock is in working order.
