A Victorian Golden Oak Country House Pillar Post Box, the hexagonal domed top decorated with a carved roundel surrounded by six arches above a hinged brass flap engraved LETTERS. The door with 'times of collection' window' and original working lock opens to a leather lined interior. The front of the drawer at the base bears a brass diamond shaped tablet with the year digit to be '8' tells us that the design was registered in 1872.
Condition: The box is in excellent condition commensurate with age.

Post boxes like this one would have stood in the front hall of a country house for the facility of family & guests, and would have been emptied twice a day by a member of the household and the letters taken to the post office.
