JOHN PECK & SON NELSON SQUARE BLACKFRIARS. MANUFACTURERS TO HIS MAJESTY'S STATIONERY OFFICE.
A rare slimline Black Leather Despatch Box from the First World War embossed with the insignia of George V and 'War Cabinet', dating it to between 1914 & 1918. This is the earliest box I have come across which has been fitted with a rear handle. The black leather lined interior features raised sides & stability studs, and the maker's name, address & details appear on either side of the lock on the inner front edge.
The secure five lever Chubb's Detector lock, numbered 1746719, retains its original key.
