A George V Black Morocco Leather Despatch Box, the bevelled cover bearing the name  Sir John Simon and Indian Statutory Commission*. Flanking the recessed swing handle is a pair of red leather patches embossed with King George V's crown and the letters G R I. (George Rex Imperator)

The black lined interior has raised sides, stability studs, brass open lid support and leather trellis work inside the lid. The working click-lock is stamped Bramah, London.

 The Indian Statutory Commission Also Known As The Simon Commission, Was A Group Of Seven Members Of Parliament Under The Chairmanship Of Sir John Simon. The Commission Arrived In India In 1928 To Study Constitutional Reform In Britain's Largest And Most Important Possession. One Of Its Members Was The Future Leader Of The Labour Party Clement Attlee, Who Became Committed To Self-Government For India.
