A Rare Edwardian Red Morocco Leather Despatch Box of small proportions C1905 with recessed brass side handle, the bevelled cover embossed 'I.O'. (India Office) flanking the Edward VII insignia with the crown and monogram comprising the initials E.R.I. (Edwardus Rex Imperator, Edward, King, Emperor). The front bevel is stamped 'PRIVATE SECRETARY'
The black leather interior has raised sides and stabilising studs. The top raises on a full width hinge and is stabilised at 90° with quadrant stays.
The Bramah Patent lock is original to the box and has been restored with a replacement key
