A large Edwardian Oval Mahogany Pillar Post Letter Box of superb quality, with an attractive grain & mellow patina, as listed in The Army & Navy Stores catalogue of 1907. This model was offered in three sizes: 12", 15" & 18". This one is the largest size. Please see the image showing the relevant page of the catalogue. The top is domed, and it stands on a deep skirted plinth. The brass posting slot is engraved LETTERS, and is black filled. The post leaves times of are shown inside a glazed open top brass frame in the door. Inside the door there is an ivorine label with the registration 473021, showing the model to have been registered in 1906. It weighs more than 6 kilos. The lock is in good working order.
